I just finished the sixth Harry Potter book so now I’m waiting for the last one to come out. To start keeping me busy until the last book in the series is delivered I’m switching gears to mysteries for the next book in my queue which will be A Wicked Snow by Gregg Olsen. I think I’ll probably finish two or three books by the time Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is delivered to my door.

The last time I wrote about the book I was reading was when I noted that I was re-reading Pandora’s Planet by Peter F. Hamilton before reading its sequel, Judas Unchained. Well, I finished both of those and moved on to The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi. Excellent books all. Now I’m reading The Big Over Easy: A Nursery Crime by Jasper Fforde. It’s quite enjoyable but I preferred the Thursday Next books. Maybe he’ll hit his stride with this world in the next one which I haven’t picked up yet.

I finished Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher Sunday and started Fifty Below by Kim Stanley Robinson yesterday. I’m not sure what’s next but I’m thinking of switching to a mystery or two next.

I finally finished The Far Side of the Stars by David Drake. I’m starting Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher, the latest of his Dresden Files series to hit paperback. I even think I already know what I’m going to read after that. It’s probably going to be Fifty Degrees Below by Kim Stanley Robinson.

OK, I finished John Scalzi’s Old Man’s War and it deserves every bit of praise I’ve read heaped on it. I can’t wait for the next ones to hit paperback. But now…what to read next, what to read next? Besides Cascading Style Sheets, Third Edition by Hakon Wium Lie & Bert Bos and WordPress 2 Visual Quickstart Guide by Maria Langer and Miraz Jordan, that is (If anyone else is really reading this do you know of any other books on WordPress? Other perspectives are always a good idea.). In terms of fiction what should be next? Stick to SF or F? Pick up a mystery instead? Thriller? Decisions, decisions…

It’s amazing how much reading you can get done waiting for someone in the ER. I finished Bridgehead, got halfway through Old Man’s War and read 5 chapters in a book on WordPress last night.

I’m currently reading Seeker by Jack McDevitt. McDevitt is an excellent writer of hard science fiction and based on a short meeting with him at the Campbell Conference dinner at KU in 2005 he’s a pretty nice guy too.
